Counter-Terrorism Visit
9/11/2010
On the 9th of November, we had two members of Derby's Special Branch (SB) Counter-Terrorism group come into college. They did a presentation of the history of terrorism in Derbyshire and ways in how terrorists plan an attack and which locations would be best suited to attack, such as shopping outlets and busy enclosed areas.
They showed us a video about a terrorist planning an attack on a shopping centre, this showed us how terrorists plan an attack; they take photos, video record and they monitor the whole centre to get an idea of when it's at its busiest.
After we watched the video, we were told ways in which people act suspiciously and that we should report any sort of suspicious behaviour that we believe could be part of a terrorist attack, no matter how small it is because it could be the final piece of evidence that the services need that could prevent the attack from happening.
